Maroondah District
District Badge
The story behind the badge
When the old districts of Croydon and Ringwood were combined we needed a new badge to reflect the changes. A competition was held to find a new badge. The winning entry was designed by a member of 2nd. Ringwood (now 2nd. Maroondah) Scout Group. He has been involved in both of the old districts in his scouting life.
What does it mean?
The oval shape encompases both the old district badge shapes. The diamond of Croydon, and square of Ringwood.
The mountains are the Dandenong ranges, visible in most of the district. The light blue ribbon signifies the district waterways, while the black ribbon signifies the major road which runs through the district, the Maroondah Highway.
The stylised flower beneath the ribbon is the wattle, our national flower. The ten yellow flowers signify the ten scout laws, while the five green leaves signify the five sections of scouting, in Australia.
There were aspects of both the old district badges incorporated into the new design.
